CIRITH GORGOR - Sovereign CASSETTE

CIRITH GORGOR - Sovereign CASSETTE
CIRITH GORGOR - Sovereign CASSETTE

Cirith Gorgor consolidates its position as the Benelux’s #1 Black Metal band... “Sovereign” leaves only scorched earth!

Cirith Gorgor’s origin and roots go deep back into time, and can be traced back to the beginnings of the Dutch black metal scene. With their debut demo “Mystic Legends” Cirith Gorgor gets noticed, and soon legendary French label Osmose Productions makes a deal with these Dutch devil worshippers. In those earlier years of Cirith Gorgor the band releases two classics, but by the beginning of the 21st century a conscious return to the underground starts to make them less visible.

Within the Netherlands’ Black Metal scene, Cirith Gorgor is the most respected band, by far and without any competition. To some extent they can be seen as the Dutch equivalent to Marduk and Craft, though Cirith Gorgor had a more old-school sound and style, until recently: every album they did took you back to that time when bands like Marduk, for example, unleashed their instantly recognizable, “ready for war” brand of music upon the world, but this slowly changed.

With 22+ years on the clock at the time of their newest release, Cirith Gorgor know where they want to go musically, and they have managed to perfect their style through the years. Of course, several elements found on ‘Sovereign’ can be traced back to some illustrious genre cohorts, but all with a twist of their own, with a very strong identity and top quality. Speed and intensity are undeniably key ingredients of their brand of Black Metal, but well into its fourth decade of existence, the genre has been populated by countless bands that have shown us that way more flavors can be added to the mix. That is exacly what Cirith Gorgor do on “Sovereign”!

Respect Cirith Gorgor’s legacy & past, but keep a fresh mind, Cirith Gorgor A.D. 2019 is all together an entity of a different kind. Cirith Gorgor is the Phoenix, risen and reborn from its proud ashes of the past, reborn in a much stronger form, reborn to take all true followers of the dark black metal cult by ultimate surprise!

ISOLE - Dystopia CASSETTE

ISOLE - Dystopia CASSETTE
ISOLE - Dystopia CASSETTE

Fans of classic Doom Metal should beg, steal, or kill to get their hands on “Dystopia”. This is a big album, with big songs and a big sound!

Isole formed under the name Forlorn back in 1990. Several demo tapes were recorded in the 1990s, including Waves Of Sorrow in 1994 - a recording still revered by epic doom metal fans. After a few years of turmoil, I Hate Records approached them in 2003. With a newly signed contract and much motivation, the band saw it fit to adopt a new moniker, thus becoming Isole.

Isole’s debut album, “Forevermore”, was released in early 2005. The next album, “Throne Of Void” - released in the summer of 2006 - delivered an even darker sound than its critically acclaimed predecessor. The next step in Isole’s journey was signing with major label Napalm Records and the release of “Bliss Of Solitude”. “Bliss Of Solitude” received overwhelming positive feedback from fans and critics alike; however, Isole did not fall prey to idleness and continuously worked on new material for their fourth album, “Silent Ruins”. It was an ambitious concept album in which the band ventured into new territories by incorporating more variation and increasing the pace of the songs.

After releasing four albums in four years, Isole slowed things down. They decided to take a break from the studio and focus on playing live in order to gain some perspective before returning to the song writing process. Isole’s fifth release, “Born From Shadows”, is the continuation of a story that began in 2005.

3 years later Isole left Napalm Records and begun a collaboration with Cyclone Empire which resulted in the slightly more progressive opus “The Calm Hunter”. Things have been a bit quiet around Isole after the tour they did to support “The Calm Hunter” but time has now come for the next chapter in the Isole saga, they have dwelled in the shadows long enough and will spread their wings of melancholy again now allied with Hammerheart Records. The new opus “Dystopia” with stories of this deteriorating world weaved in melancholic melodies will be out in August 2019. Once again recorded at Studio Apocalypse and Gustavo Sazes (Arch Enemy, Firewind) provided his artistic know-how to convey a feeling of mysticism and darkness through his symbolic artwork, while Mika Jussila Bogren Finnvox Studios took on the mastering responsibilities.

With their first releases, Isole were able to secure an excellent reputation within the doom metal underground. Then with Bliss of Solitude and Silent Ruins they elevated their status even further. Now with their anticipated return with Dystopia Isole will secure their well-earned position in the doom metal scene.

NECROPHOBIC - The Third Antichrist CASSETTE

NECROPHOBIC - The Third Antichrist CASSETTE
NECROPHOBIC - The Third Antichrist CASSETTE

This will sear the hair off of your balls!!!

Well holy fucking shit, what do we have here? Another classic by the Swedish death-metallers Necrophobic, making this their third utterly fantastic release in a row. If you have heard their previous two releases "The Nocturnal Silence" and "Darkside", this doesn't stray too far from that thrash/black influenced death metal sound.

This may seriously be Necrophobic's finest release as every musician is absolutely on top of their game: from the insanely addictive tremolo-picked guitar riffs to the eerie lead guitar work scattered gloriously throughout every song, this release borders on perfect.

The production is damn fine and every element of an awesome Satanic Death Metal record is in tact: tasteful drumming with intense blast-beats and rhythmic diversity to complex bass-lines which absolutely compete with the fucking stellar guitar wizardry.

Purists may scoff at how Necrophobic aren't true black metal or death metal, but I think they incorporate the best characteristics of the two distinct extreme metal genres to form a hybrid sound. "The Third Antichrist" is that fucking good. It truly is a metal gem to behold, and of special mention are the killer vocals as well as the fucking awesome lyrics. Complex Satanic death metal with melodic underpinnings has never sounded so good.

SOL SISTERE - Extinguished Cold Light CASSETTE

SOL SISTERE - Extinguished Cold Light CASSETTE
SOL SISTERE - Extinguished Cold Light CASSETTE

“Extinguished Cold Light” represents a different world, a universe of burning hatred and bitterness, where the only way forward is to stumble on through the dark!

One’s gotta love an album with a title like “Extinguished Cold Light”. It tells you a lot about what you can expect from the record in terms of sheer density and otherworldly soundscapes. Sol Sistere take full advantage of this and boldly follow up on all that their album title has to offer and then some. “Extinguished Cold Light” elegantly balances dark and light, using heart wrenching minor key melodies and tremolo picked guitars to create powerful soundscapes that tell a story. The fully immersive sonic experience of “Extinguished Cold Light” touches upon the true meaning of black metal. They want to give you something to meditate on and to get lost in. “Extinguished Cold Light” represents a different world, a universe of burning hatred and bitterness, where the only way forward is to stumble on through the dark. Perhaps though, the blazing majesty of this release can help us find the way home.

As you delve deeper into Sol Sistere’s music you quickly find that “Extinguished Cold Light” represents a very unique songwriting style. While it might be easy to categorize the bands high intensity moments as a mere wall of sound effect, these guys actually write some killer melodies. The progressions give the music a sense of depth that almost rivals Emperor at times. Part of what will keep you coming back to “Extinguished Cold Light” is its sense of grandeur.

Sol Sistere are on the verge of becoming one of the lords of black metal. This is the sort of band who understand what their place in the metal scene needs to be and are certainly creating their own void. Balancing sick black metal tones with something truly beautiful the band finds majesty in the ugliness and hatred in the light. Watching them carry things on to the next level will be a monumental journey.
