Two Czech dark hardcore / post rock crews vs. sludge / doom in joint split release!

SERPENT EATER know exactly who they are and what they are doing on 'Vanitas'. Opening with a stomping black metal crusher of a riff overlaid with cackling screams and ripping double kicks, this is blackened crust at it's most operatic and metallic. The production and performances here are supremely polished and well rehearsed, there isn't so much as a squeak of feedback that feels out of place. Soundwise SERPENT EATER lean heavily on the black metal side, with rocking black'n'roll sections interspersed with huge sounding blasts and absolutely punishing double kick drums. Their riffs are certainly serpentine as well, meandering around and over the drums like the coils of a resting python, springing to life for moments of attack before coiling back in on themselves.
Vocally they range from the head tilted back howling screams of black metal to almost guttural death growls, this is used almost instrumentally to add dynamics to their compositions. This is a professional and expertly performed and produced release that sees SERPENT EATER sounding like a true venue destroyer, certainly a band at the very top of their game and worth catching!

Beautifully restored artwork and a top remaster soundwise. This classic never looked or sounded better than it does now! Trouble’s second album “The Skull” from 1985 is a cornerstone of Doom Metal!

Birthed from the open spaces of the western United States and now nestled in Nashville, Tennessee; Across Tundras has been a band which has always been able to convey the feeling of being in the presence of severity through their music. Their fifth and most recent release, “Sage,” accomplishes this in a way unfamiliar to even the most loyal of ‘AT’ listeners. Over six years, since the band’s initial release, “Divides,” a massive dirge which never relented upon the listener, many have attempted to pigeon-hole this band to genres which fit the readers of their particular 'zine or blog. Fitting in everywhere and nowhere all at once. The simple truth of the matter is, few bands have ever been able to combine and compact such a wide variety of influences and make what is simply, original art.

Their latest effort, “Sage,” easily proves to easily be their most personally artistic yet. Listening to this record you are hearing a band that has grown into what it always dreamed to be. The album brings together those influences that make Across Tundras so unique, the classic vibes of Johnny Cash and Neil Young, to the ominous heaviness of Black Sabbath and Neurosis, all points visited between, in a cohesive and natural way. It’s organic, progressive, and heavy as all hell.

Their influence can be heard in many modern heavy doom/sludge bands like Zoroaster, Thou, Unearthly Trance, etc. Noothgrush ceased to exist in 2001, as the band sought to develop new material and not be forced to perform the old repertoire. Unfortunately, involvement with other bands, jobs, etc. kept Noothgrush from developing. Live For Nothing is a compilation of two live on the radio broadcasts the band did in the 90s. One, from KZSU in 1996, the other from KFJC in 1999. Both recordings are a precise document of the powerful group in their prime. The tracks were mastered by Brad Boatright (From Ashes Rise guitarist) and breathe black fumes of toxins once again.

The now legendary Noothgrush, from the Bay area, was birthed in the spring of 1994 by founding members Gary Niederhoff on Bass and Chiyo Nukaga on drums. Over the next year, the band had various other members including Matt Harvey (Exhumed, Repulsion) on 2nd guitar. It wasn t until guitarist Russ Kent joined in early 1995 that the classic Noothgrush lineup was complete. The band played 145 shows, toured the U.S. and Quebec for 7 weeks, did numerous west coast, southwest tours with various bands such as Corrupted, Seized, Wisigoth, Dystopia, Hellchild, and Black Army Jacket... to name a few. They played the legendary Fiesta Grande Festival three times and most often at the infamous 924 Gilman St. club in Berkeley, CA. Over the years, they also played with many great bands such as Grief, Man is the Bastard, Suffocation, Burning Witch, Grave, His Hero Is Gone, High On Fire, Weakling, Asunder, etc. Noothgrush was well known for their consistently bludgeoning assault, played at slow as boiling tar tempos.

Reissue of long sold out split from 2012, that was strictly limited to 250 copies. Both bands from New Zealand, both slow and brutal!!! Meth Drinker delivers three songs of obscure sewer sludge in vein of Noothgrush and Grief. This is third release of MD via Drop Out, beside split 7’’ with Dead Instrument and split Tape with Moloch. On the flip side another slow ride, Open Tomb brings two slow funeral doom songs with sludge influences.

Not only because it’d make them look as if they were actually looking at other bands for inspiration but also because it’d limit them. Sure thing, the words ‘dark’ and ‘fucking heavy’ are the most common words uttered with both admiration and fear about them, closely followed by ‘doom’, ‘sludge’ and whatever else suggest a form of music that takes a special pride in crushing its listeners until nothing is left but a vulgar mass of mangled flesh. But even more than their self-titled debut album released two years ago on both TOTALRUST (CD version) and SVART (LP version), their new creation ‘Kaldera’ dares taking another step into the unknown…
As they’re saying themselves, over the last two years, strengthened by multiple shows in their native Finland and around their home base of Tampere, they have developed into “a more complex beast, collecting more shades into our palette. The shifting, raw and at times very spontaneous manifestation of musical ideas is still the key, accompanying the determined and slow, crushing sounds of our doom.” Hell, there’s even shades of melody to be found in those dark ruins dedicated to humanity’s failure. But first and foremost, what those eight tracks will prove with a hammer is how bloody catchy LURK has become.
Even if they might evoke to some a CROWBAR LP played at the half of its normal speed or maybe the depressing rumblings of ZATOKREV, those are just almost random points as LURK sound like no-one...but LURK. Enter ‘Kaldera’ at your own peril!

Italian Blackened Doom monster NAGA is ready to make their comeback in November 2019 with a new obscure effort called ‘Void Cult Rising’ following up the fortunate ‘Hen’ and ‘Inanimate’.

Debut full length of this Warsaw, Poland based metal/post-metal/sludge/hardcore band! The album "Zgliszcza" includes five songs which testify to the journey of Czerń and to how the band’s vision of music has been evolving. Every song is different, although they are all equally permeated with aggression and darkness. Alongside slower riffs, which connote sludge, on the record one will find a lots of fast sounds, loaded with black metal venom and death metal relentlessness. The sound of Zgliszcza is augmented by the deep, harsh growl of Łukasz. The intros were composed by Michał Głowacki (So Slow, Latające Pięści). They unleash new material "Att Med Kniv Ta En Kristens Liv". If I describe Pissboiler's music in a few words, it's "hybrid of funeral doom and extreme sludge/drone". Low frequency crawling oppression combined with emotional funeral dirge. The concept of this album is murder case that 2 old men were stabbed to kill in bed. It's joyless and only bitter negativeness here!
